Product Quality – China

In the last 1-2 years, there has been intense scrutiny of the quality of Chinese products. Remember the Chinese toys recall in China, poisoned pet food and Melamine tainted milk. How does this affect Chinese economy? As nations are developing more and more, there is an increased focus on product safety. Consumers are willing to pay a premium for product safety. As we all know, China is heavily dependent on exports. Such episodes cost it dearly, and give an opportunity to other countries to take over the market. Chinese companies and government should ensure strict quality controls and product checks to ensure such things do not happen in future.

Here is an article about a recent campaign that China is running to improve its product quality image worldwide.

  1. Sunny Choi Says:

It’s not the technology and style that are dilapidated or vulgar, but the product quality that really matters. If not anything positive, the inverse of the message that MIC products have spoiled the advances of the western world may be conveyed.

  2. Danyang Xie Says:

Product Quality is the key for success in firms with long term goals. In 1985, the legendary Zhang Ruiming of Haier ordered the destruction of 76 refrigerators deemed low quality. The market value of these 76 refrigerators were about 3-month salary of all the workers in the firm. Haier is now famous for its product quality.

  3. Lorena Says:

I agree with professor Xie that product Quality is the key success.. and the most important thing is to make people beleive in this quality. I think that trying to re-build the brand “Made in China” is great and is the only way people will beleive in Chinese products.
Is what happened with Japan products 15 years ago, and now they´re perceived as high-quality products.
